Risperdal

It is manufactured by Jansen Pharmaceuticals, a division of Johnson & Johnson and was approved in 1993. The drug is also used off-label to treat autism, but has been linked to diabetes.

People taking Risperdal have an increased chance of developing diabetes. In fact, it is about 50 percent more than compared with older antipsychotics. The drug has also been linked to Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS), stroke, and Tardive Dyskensia. It has also been know to cause headaches, weight gain, constipation, high fever, spasms and weakness in the muscles, and irregular heartbeats.

Some side effects include the following: drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, heartburn, dry mouth, increased salvia, increased appetite, weight gain, stomach pain, anxiety, agitation, restlessness, dreaming more than usual, difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep, decreased sexual interest or ability, breast milk production, vision problems, muscle or joint pain, dry or discolored skin, or difficulty urinating.

Some serious side effects may include: fever, muscle stiffness, confusion, fast or irregular pulse, sweating, unusual movements of your face or body that you cannot control, faintness, seizures, slow movements or shuffling walk, rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing or swallowing, or a painful erection of the penis that lasts for hours.

It may also cause children to gain more weight than expected and for boys or male adolescents to have an increase in the size of their breasts.
