Actos increases risk for bladder cancer

Living with Type 2 diabetes comes with its own challenges. However, according to some studies, taking anti-diabetic medication Actos can put you at risk for even more serious problems, including bladder cancer. Here are a few facts to know about Actos:

  • People who take Actos for one year increase their chance of being diagnosed with bladder cancer by 40 percent, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
  • Due to its dangerous effects, Actos was recently banned in India this year, following France and Germany, which both banned the drug in 2011.
  • Actos maker, Takeda, has faced more than 3,000 lawsuits filed by people who have suffered from Actos-related side effects.
