Transvaginal mesh repair comes with risks

Many women who suffer from pelvic disorders, such as pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence, often undergo transvaginal surgical repair for relief. Unfortunately, the transvaginal or Kugel mesh that is used in the surgery can often lead to even more injuries, including pain, infection, mesh erosion, sexual dysfunction, a recurrence of the pelvic disorder and death.

The Food and Drug Administration has recalled a number of these products, as early as 2005.

If you or a loved one has experienced any of these symptoms or more, let our attorneys at the Singleton Law Firm assist you. Contact us today!

DePuy Hip Replacement ASR and Pinnacle can cause injury

Hip replacement surgery is a procedure often offered to patients as a last resort treatment to relieve unbearable pain most often caused by osteoarthritis, as well as rheumatoid arthritis, injury and other ailments.

The primary benefits of hip replacement surgery can include pain relief, better mobility and functionality. However, the side effects can include serious risks, especially for patients who receive the DePuy ASR and Pinnacle and other metal-on-metal hip replacements.

DePuy ASR hip replacements have a high failure rate within five years or less, when the product is expected to last 10 to 15 years. Pinnacle hip replacements can cause osteolysis, osteomyelitis, revision surgery, hip, thigh and groin pain, severe swelling, disabling pain, loosening of implant and early failure.

If this has happened you or someone you know, don’t try to fight this battle alone. Call the Singleton Law Firm today and let our dynamic legal team to assist you. We are the People’s Champion and we will earn your trust!

5 things to know about the da Vinci Surgical Robot

The Singleton Law firm is now taking cases for claims against the da Vinci Surgical Robot. The da Vinci is a state-of the-art, remote-controlled, minimally invasive device used in many surgeries today. However, it’s also prone to not work properly and/or cause damaging side effects. Here are some other things to know about the da Vinci Robot:

  1. The da Vinci Robot is comprised of four arms. One arm is the endoscopic camera and the remaining three are surgical instruments. This allows the robot to have a range of motion beyond that of a human hand and is less invasive.
  2. The da Vinci Robot is FDA-approved for use in surgical procedures that treat the following conditions: bladder cancer, colorectal cancer, coronary artery disease, endometriosis, gynecologic cancer, heavy uterine bleeding, kidney disorders, kidney cancer, mitral valve prolapse, obesity, prostate cancer, throat cancer, uterine fibroids and uterine prolapse.
  3. An “Urgent Medical Device Notification” was issued by Intuitive Surgical on May 8, 2013 warning customers of a potential issue with the da Vinci Robot’s curved scissors, the EndoWrist Hot Shears Monopolar Curved Scissors. The scissors were reportedly prone to develop a defect that could result in burns to the patient during surgery.
  4. Lawsuits filed against the da Vinci Robot include claims of inadequate training of surgeons on how to use the device, as well as device flaws.
  5. The da Vinci Robot has been associated with other serious injuries including tears, burns and perforations to arties and organs and even death.

If you or a loved one has suffered any of these symptoms or other injury as result of the da Vinci Surgical Robot device, contact the Singleton Law Firm today and let our attorneys assist you.
