5 things to know about the da Vinci Surgical Robot

The Singleton Law firm is now taking cases for claims against the da Vinci Surgical Robot. The da Vinci is a state-of the-art, remote-controlled, minimally invasive device used in many surgeries today. However, it’s also prone to not work properly and/or cause damaging side effects. Here are some other things to know about the da Vinci Robot:

  1. The da Vinci Robot is comprised of four arms. One arm is the endoscopic camera and the remaining three are surgical instruments. This allows the robot to have a range of motion beyond that of a human hand and is less invasive.
  2. The da Vinci Robot is FDA-approved for use in surgical procedures that treat the following conditions: bladder cancer, colorectal cancer, coronary artery disease, endometriosis, gynecologic cancer, heavy uterine bleeding, kidney disorders, kidney cancer, mitral valve prolapse, obesity, prostate cancer, throat cancer, uterine fibroids and uterine prolapse.
  3. An “Urgent Medical Device Notification” was issued by Intuitive Surgical on May 8, 2013 warning customers of a potential issue with the da Vinci Robot’s curved scissors, the EndoWrist Hot Shears Monopolar Curved Scissors. The scissors were reportedly prone to develop a defect that could result in burns to the patient during surgery.
  4. Lawsuits filed against the da Vinci Robot include claims of inadequate training of surgeons on how to use the device, as well as device flaws.
  5. The da Vinci Robot has been associated with other serious injuries including tears, burns and perforations to arties and organs and even death.

If you or a loved one has suffered any of these symptoms or other injury as result of the da Vinci Surgical Robot device, contact the Singleton Law Firm today and let our attorneys assist you.
