Mirena is a small, T-shaped plastic intrauterine device (IUD) that releases a hormone into the uterus to prevent pregnancy. Mirena can cause tearing of uterus and/or intestines, bleeding, abdominal pain and other side effects. It is manufactured by Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals.
Side effects include the following:
- Abscesses
- Adhesion or scarring
- Embedment in the uterine wall
- Infertility
- Miscarriage
